being an egg isn't all it's cracked up to be

I know I know I'm sorry that was a bad joke, but Hoppy Easter everyone! Ok I'll stop with the eggcellent puns, happy* easter. Chicks.
My very drunken brother arrived home at 5am last night and put these outside mine and my Mum's bedroom. What a sweetie.

Despite the fact I nearly trod on it numerous times (that would cause an eggtraodinary mess), it made me laugh a bit. Along with the pouting Snapchats I got from him with a short message of "love you sis". Brilliant. For those who are new to this world of digital technology and its ever advancing ways- oops now I sound like I'm ranting in one of my Media essays- "Snapchat" is the latest craze of Apps on Apple and Android phones. You send each other a photo or short video clip for a limited amount of time for them to see, from 1-10 seconds and you can add a message to it. It sounds pretty pointless but don't knock it until you've tried it, serious fun. Not so fun when my brother sends me a (thankfully 1 second short) clip of his friends bum crack.

to infinity and beyond

No, I'm not watching Toy Story, though I wish I was. The rings I ordered from Etsy finally came, all the way from Bali in Indonesia. I got these two rings personalised with 'Mother' and 'Daughter' for Mum for Mother's Day. It's a Tiffany & Co. replica, sterling silver and the symbol represents infinity/eternity. Sadly as me and Mum were blessed with boney twigs for fingers, the rings are miles too big but we're hoping to get them resized. One of favourite pieces of jewellery, I love little keepsakes like these :)

Love my Mum. Thanks to Mary Ann and her shop MimicDesign on www.etsy.com for these little marvels!

charity shop raid

Bored, cold and isolated on the sofa- eyes fixed watching an episode of Friends I have probably seen for the 20th time round, me and Mum have decided to go on a charity shop raid in Hitchin. I'm looking for a wintry oversized cape coat or delicate tops with pretty peter pan collars. I'll see what I can rummage through and what bargains I can steal (not literally). This is a wardrobe revamp without the hit to my purse AND I'm doing my good deeds for the day; donating to charity and recycling clothes. Sorry Topshop I'm taking a break

Wrapping up in a pashmina and a woollen beret because the snow is bitttttterly cold today

bubbles and a film camera

There is something so magical, so refeshing about developing film photographs in a dark room. I always feel like I've gone back to the 70s or 80s. I spent four hours on Friday, (partly because I was enjoying it and partly because the deadline was by the end of that day) developing photo after photo and inhaling the heavy fumes of the chemicals.  This time it was for the first shoot of my Unit 2 AS Photography project, the theme being "covert and obscure". These are a few of what I managed to get, going with the idea of mixing bubbles/dreams/nature and misty daylight. I love how dreamy the photos came out- exactly what I intended. It's funny though because the model I used was my cousin, who is the absolute depiction of a 'bubbly' person, and unintentionally the photographs mirror her personality in one shot. One being that her personality is so bubbly but two being that 95% of the time she is most definitely in her own little bubble..

#brbchasinglight

iPhoneography. Inspired by the lovely Leanne Surfleet. Using light and shadows is my favourite, favourite thing. Edited using Instagram

chasing light

I think I've reached the conclusion that as much as I adore photography, I don't think I'd ever follow it for a career, just a hobby. I get these days or moments where I just go mad and crave taking photographs or I spam my whole Instagram news feed with (pretty pointless) pictures. Just love it. There is something so pleasing about a photograph you've taken, though most would say all you have to do it press a button.. well yes but in the most non "artisty-bullshitty-mentally-estranged" way- it is SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT!

After using Leanne Surfleet (a superly duperly good photographer) as a reference in my Unit 1 Photography project, emailing her, getting a response AND getting a follow back from her on Instagram; I've always wanted to try out her sunlight/shadows pictures. Seeing as sunlight is such a rarity in Britain, I definitely jumped at the chance today- all be it a tad too excitedly- when I noticed the faint blind strokes on the wall from the sun earlier. Here's some photos I took earlier using my iPhone, edited with an app called Polaroid and then uploaded on the beloved Instagram. Fun fun fun

whipsnade zoo

So I became a member of my schools magazine to get some experience for the hopeful future (you know when I'm working for Company or OK! in five years time yep then) and we're called Press Gang (don't mess ha). And this is the first article I've written and photographed for. I'll post again in a few months when it's actually been published but for the time being; listen to me talk about how much I erm love animals..

I'm going to ask Mum if we can have pet baby penguins

On Tuesday 12th February the two Biology classes of Year 12 set off for a chilly day at Whipsnade Zoo where we would use this trip to trigger ideas for our upcoming issue report as part of our AS syllabus. Despite the wintry conditions both the animals and ourselves ventured out into the snow and braved the cold weather. Splitting into two groups, the first half of us sat a two hour lecture delivered by a member of ZSL (Zoological Society of London) whilst the other half explored the exhibits around the zoo.
I began in the lecture room where the speaker educated us on the increasing threat of many endangered species such as Mountain Chickens (which are in fact a species of frog). She then continued to discuss the conservation measures that are being put into practice. We also had small group exercises put together by Whipsnade for us to complete which gave us an insight into how they calculate the population of all animals. For example we had to pair mating partners from a studbook, which enabled us to understand the importance of genetic variation within a species. After a thought-provoking lecture, the two groups swapped over and my group went out to see the animals.
Feeling like my five year old self once again, following pathways to the animal catchments and cooing at every animal in sight, I can honestly say at seventeen years old it was just as enjoyable! However this time I had an understanding of their unstable climate. Many were listed as critically endangered and after reading placards which lined their exhibits, it allowed me to find out more about their habitat and livelihood. There was every animal you could imagine; from flamingoes to cheetahs to chameleons and snakes. The reptile exhibit, known as the Discovery Centre wasn’t quite so favourable mind; the snakes, insects and lizards didn’t make me feel so comfortable! There was one animal in particular in their prime environment of the cold conditions though, which can be seen in the photograph; baby penguins. This was my favourite sighting of the day, too adorable to put into words.
I would most definitely recommend any animal crazy fanatics or environment savvy readers to visit this inspirational pioneering zoo. It really opened my mind to the problems zoologists are facing and what we can do to help.

inhale... and exhale...

Stretching here, exhaling there, avoiding releasing gas then...

You're probably wondering what I'm on about. It involved stretching to make my body feel "tall" apparently (didn't think my body could do such a thing), curling up in a ball and standing on my head with my arms flailing (just kidding about the last one). I finally went to a Pilates class at my gym. After reading numerous toned celebs in magazines stating their daily routine of Pilates and eating two grapes, I thought I'd give it a go. Not the two grapes part, just the class. I arrived to a class of slim 60-somethings and the odd few men which I didn't expect. The polish instructor resembled a hippy with bohemian frizzy hair and harem pants, nonetheless she was good at what she taught. An hours session of stretching and screeching and tensing my "buttocks" was actually surprisingly refreshing. Whether it actually did anything to my core muscles or not I guess I'll never know.. but I definitely recommend for the stress-cluttered-minds like my own.

This is me at the end of the class xo

wishbones

Adore my new wishbone necklace.
Wishbones always remind me of the Friends episode where Joey and Phoebe are making a wish to win the lottery.

Monica: Well, it doesn't really matter ...you're both wishing for the same thing, right?
Joey: I can't tell you what I'm wishing for! Else..you know.. won't come true!

Who needs a Tiffany when you can get this in the Topshop sale for £3.25?

swearing slip-ups

two posts in and I've sworn twice. oops I was giving up swearing for Lent. can't say it lasted long. such a horrible, unladylike habit which I will soon give up

pinafore predilection

The person who designed this deserves to be eternally worshiped. How cute is the scallop edge on this pinafore? Too feckin cute to exist in anybody's possession except my own. However I don't think even I could be stupid enough to pay a hefty £64.00 for it. Much to my disappointment. All I can ask for is the entire female population pretty pretty please (with a cherry on top) don't buy this because I will turn into a green eyed monster if I see you in public wearing it.
THNXS xo

Unless Dahlia want to donate/give/leave this in their will for me?

custard cream cushion cravings

There is no doubt about it. I need these cushions in my life, on my bed & in my arms/(mouth?)

Nikki McWilliams' designs are fab-u-lous. I might not remember the taste of this biscuit-vanilla-fondant sandwich from when I was about 10, but I do remember how bloody perfeck they are for tea dipping. And the embossed baroque pattern is SO in at the minute right?

N.B: go to the biscuit aisle in tesc's and buy numerous packets of custard creams. oh and add these cushions to your cart on www.nikkimcwilliams.bigcartel.com. Massive thanks to Oh Comely mag for the distraction to this website
